Just over a week ago, I attended the 2009 AWC National Conference. The first AWC National Conference I attended was in 2007 and it prompted me to write "The Power of a Professional Association." Two years later, I'm glad to discover this post still rings true. At this year's conference, I reconnected with folks and met new people. So continues the building of my professional network and, hopefully, my personal board of advisors.
Before the conference, I nominated Lorraine Howell, fellow AWC Seattle chapter member and author of Give Your Elevator Speech a Lift, for the Headliner Award. I'm proud to say she won and her presentation at the conference was inspiring.
Lorraine reminded us (me!) it's never too late to go after your dreams and, to accomplish your dreams, you need to surround yourself with supportive people and lots of laughter. I couldn't ask for more professional support and laughter than what I get from my AWC Seattle colleagues (thanks, ladies!).
I also heard Lisa Witter discuss how women are an untapped market for changing the world. Before that, I attended a session where Christopher Flett gave insights on what men don't tell women about business.
No surprise that Lisa is author of The She Spot: Why Women are the Market for Changing the World and How to Reach Them and Christopher is author of What Men Don't Tell Women About Business. In their presentations, they both highlighted how, overall, women appreciate details and are driven by process. Men, on the other hand, are driven by goals. I've ordered both books. Stay tuned for a future review/post (if you've read either/both, let me know what you think).
